Thornton Funeral Home, P.A. a family owned and family operated business, was established in Charles County, Maryland in 1968 by Mr. Leon Thornton and his wife, Margaret. Leon was born in Ashburn, Virginia, and at the tender age of 17, accompanied his father to a funeral home to make funeral arrangements for his mother. He realized then that funeral service would be his life's calling. After graduating from Echols College of Mortuary Science, he relocated to Washington, D.C. to become an apprentice at a well-established funeral home. Although Margaret was born in Washington, D.C., she was a lifetime resident of Charles County, Maryland.

From the day our doors opened, we have taken pride in the service that we provide to our families. Our family owned and operated business has grown far beyond being "just" a business. We have evolved into a place of nurture by providing our families with sincere compassion, unparalleled service, and support whenever needed.

Thornton Funeral Home, P.A. has put great care and effort into the design of its facility in order to accommodate the needs of the families that walk through our doors. We can provide seating for up to 400 people.  Our main chapel is spacious yet can be transformed into a more intimate setting to meet the needs of our families.
